Evangelical Daycare Emmaus-Ölberg

The approximately 1,600 m² outdoor grounds of the Emmaus-Ölberg daycare center in Kreuzberg were redesigned into an ecologically and pedagogically oriented play landscape. The focus is on an environment that enables children to act independently, promotes opportunities for physical activity and learning, develops social skills, and creates quiet spaces for rest and relaxation.

The basic spatial structure consists of a varied circular trail featuring different types of paving. Through landform modeling and planted mounds, various play areas have been created, including a water and mud area, a rock landscape, a crawl tunnel, a hillside slide, swings, a small soccer field, and a large climbing course. An amphitheater provides a space for socializing, interaction, and spending time together.

Where possible, components such as the stainless-steel slides were reused to reduce material consumption.

In the protected U3 area, a mini-climbing structure, a playhouse, and the hillside slide on the new planting mound encourage physical activity. Wooden platforms serve as play islands as well as seating and storage areas.

Robust, climate-resilient plantings create a vibrant green structure and make the garden climate-ready. The kindergarten’s design combines ecological considerations with educational effectiveness, thereby creating a learning and play environment appropriate for the children’s age and developmental stage.
